Seahorse Observation Report on TVI
In the Ria Formosa Natural Park lives the largest seahorses community in the world.
Here you have your unique opportunity to observe these amazing creatures behavior in their natural environment.
The two resident species identified are: the long-snouted seahorse (hippocampus guttulatus), and the short-snouted seahorse (hippocampus hippocampus). Nevertheless you will see other species like octopus, cuttlefish and sea snail, also frequent to observe is traditional shellfishing.
The activity is done in the Ria Formosa lagoon system with a biologist skipper that will give you precious information and guide you to identify the species of seahorses. We start and end the tour on a motorboat that will take you to the perfect spot for searhorses observation. To be able to observe the species and the bottom of the Ria we will provide you diving mask and snorkel tube.
