Seahorse Observation Report on RTP
The Ria Formosa is receiving more and more tourists who make boat trips to watch closely seahorses , a species in danger of extinction and which has in the Algarve its larger population.
” The main objective of the activity is to try to sensitize our customers to how fragile is the species. Trying to explain how they swim, what they eat, where they are, etc., “explained Ricardo Badálo, maritime and tourism entrepreneur, told RTP.
Due to the accumulation of sand in the canals and illegal trade, this species has been disappearing from Ria in recent years, which is why the dives are made with special care.
The trips cost on average 40 euros per person the experience lasts for two hours.
