In the Ria Formosa Natural Park lives one of the largest communities of seahorses in the world. Here you will have the unique opportunity to observe the behavior of these incredible creatures in their natural environment.
The two resident species identified are: the long-snouted seahorse (hippocampus guttulatus) and the short-snouted seahorse (hippocampus hippocampus). However, you will also see other species such as octopus, sea cucumber, cuttlefish and sea snail. It is also frequent to observe the traditional capture of shellfish.
The skipper, who will guide you throughout the tour, will provide you with all the necessary information, helping you in all the seahorse identification activity.
The activity takes place within the Ria Formosa lagoon and the diving activity is carried out without an oxygen bottle, just goggles and a diving tube for breathing.
The water depth will be 1.50m to 1.80m, so, experience in swimming is required.
The tour will take place on a boat to the place where you can dive and observe the seahorses.
Snorkeling equipment, goggles and diving tube will be provided.
