Seahorses
Did you know, that the male seahorse is who ``gets pregnant`` and remains responsible for eggs incubation? In the Ria Formosa Natural Park lives the largest seahorses community in the world.

Here you have your unique opportunity to observe these amazing creatures behavior in their natural environment.
The two resident identified species are: the long-snouted seahorse (hippocampus guttulatus), and the short-snouted seahorse (hippocampus hippocampus). Nevertheless, you will see other species like octopus, cuttlefish and sea snail. Is also frequent to observe traditional shellfish capture.
The skipper will guide you whilst providing valuable information, helping you during the activity to identify the seahorses.
This activity is done inside the Ria Formosa lagoon system and the dive is performed without an oxygen bottle (just a diving mask and snorkel).
The water is shallow enough even for nonswimmers, yet a life vest can be provided.
We´ll go by boat to the spot where you can dive into the bottom of the Ria Formosa and observe the seahorses.
A diving mask and snorkel will be provided or you can bring your own.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Bring Towel and swimsuit/bathing suit.
