The “Greatest Tide of the Century”

The “Greatest Tide of the Century”

Saturday afternoon occured the ``greatest tide of the century.``

The end of March brings tides of greater amplitude than are anticipated since records. This factor is due to the combination of the three cosmic bodies – Sun, Earth and Moon – perfectly (or almost) aligned in the equatorial plane, which is a rare astronomical event.

The conditions which were felt on Saturday are repeated approximately 18 years (the frequency however is not perfect). The last great tide was in 1977, the following will be in 2033.
The high tide point was around 4pm.

If you want to watch this rare phenomenon you are welcome to come with us on a tour until next Monday, the day on which the tides start to get lower.
