The Ria Formosa is receiving more and more tourists who make boat trips to watch closely seahorses , a species in danger of extinction and which has in the Algarve its larger population.
" The main objective of the activity is to try to sensitize our customers to how fragile is the species . Trying to explain how they swim , what they eat , where they are, etc. , "explained Ricardo Badálo, maritime and tourism entrepreneur , told RTP.
Due to the accumulation of sand in the canals and illegal trade, this species has been disappearing from Ria in recent years , which is why the dives are made with special care .
The trips cost on average 40 euros per person the experience lasts for two hours.
